Flow cytometry studies the optical parameters emitted by particles (cells, cell fractions). Flow cytometers can study a series of individual particle parameters simultaneously, rapidly, and over a large number of individualized particles in suspension. Flow cytometers use lasers as a source of light excitation; therefore, it must be possible to label the particles with one or more fluorescent substances. Information is also collected on the size and structural complexity of each particle. This multiparametric study of each particle allows us to analyze subpopulations in complex samples using an electronic classification. Some cytometers are also equipped with modules for classifying and collecting particles of interest.
The most important applications of flow cytometry include those related to the study of cell surface receptors, nuclear and cytoplasmic antigens, DNA content, enzymatic activity, cell integrity, and membrane permeability and flow. kicks. The cytometry platform has a wide range of flow cytometry and cell separation applications and develops or implements new ones depending on the demand of researchers. Its use has become widespread in the field of biomedicine (Hematology, Immunology, Pharmacology, Oncology, Microbiology, Genetics, etc.).

The platform has a FACS Aria III (BD), a flow cytometer analyzer and a separator of particles and cells of high speed and resolution. The current configuration has 4 lasers with a total of 18 fluorochromes. In addition, it also has an autoMACS magnetic cell separator. The analysis software is FACSDiva (BD) and FlowJo. The cell classifier-separator is managed by facility personnel, who also support users in experimental design and data analysis. Analyzers can be handled by the users themselves after a training session. Installation staff assists with experimental design and oversees experiments when necessary. We recommend that you discuss the experiments with the facility staff in advance to properly design the experiments.
